Scalp & hair length balance

🌿 Oily roots & dry lengths: the routine that rebalances everything

Do your roots get oily quickly while your ends remain dry and frizzy? This is a very common imbalance in curly hair. Here's how to purify your roots, hydrate the lengths, and maintain light, voluminous, and defined curls.

Why does this imbalance occur?

  • 🤯 Overproduction of sebum at the roots
  • 🌀 Difficult sebum flow in the loop → dry lengths
  • 🥵 Washing too frequently = stimulation of the sebaceous glands
  • 🧴 Products that are too rich applied to the roots
  • 💨 Friction/heat → stimulated roots + dried-out ends
Objective: to purify and soothe the scalp while hydrating the lengths of the hair. Two strategies, one routine.

Step 1 — Root Care: Purify & Balance

We treat the roots like skin : clean without stripping.

🧖♀️ Purifying shampoo (1 wash/2)

It limits sebum, cleanses the roots and restores volume.

Purifying and balancing

Purifying Shampoo – Lao Care

Cleanses the roots without damaging them. Perfect if your hair gets greasy quickly and lacks volume.

Technique: Apply leave-in + gel → detangle → slide the brush from roots to tips forming ribbons → squeeze the curls to activate the shape.

Ideal frequency & complete routine

  • Day 1 : Purifying shampoo + leave-in conditioner + jelly
  • Day 3 : Gentle shampoo + leave-in conditioner
  • Day 5 : Refresh with a hydrating mist
  • Mask once a week → only on the lengths of your hair
  • Detox once a month (or twice if the scalp is very oily)

Mistakes to absolutely avoid

  • ❌ Massaging too hard → excess sebum stimulation
  • ❌ Apply a mask to the roots
  • ❌ Wash in hot water
  • ❌ Touching your hair too often
  • ❌ Heavy oils on the scalp

Nighttime really matters 😴

The friction stimulates the roots and damages the tips.

FAQ — Oily roots & dry lengths

Why are my roots oily and my hair lengths dry? The sebaceous glands produce too much sebum at the root, but it doesn't travel down the hair shaft. The result: an oily scalp and dry, brittle ends.
How to rebalance an oily scalp? Alternate between a purifying shampoo and a gentle shampoo, detox once a month, avoid overly rich products at the roots and massage gently.
How to moisturize the lengths of the hair without making the roots greasy? Apply leave-in conditioner, mask, and oil only from the ears. Opt for lightweight textures to maintain bounce.
Can I co-wash my hair if I have oily roots? Yes, but only between washes and if your roots don't get oily too quickly. Otherwise, opt for a gentle shampoo.
How often should I wash my oily curly hair? Ideally every 5-6 days, with purifying shampoo every other wash to avoid over-stimulating sebum.
Which oil should I use when my roots are oily? No oil on the roots. Reserve them for the ends: only dry oils or light serums in small quantities.
